The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has recently greenlit the printing of 250 million ballot papers equipped with watermarks for the upcoming general election in 2024. This significant decision was made during a pivotal meeting where the ECP underscored the importance of ensuring the integrity and security of the electoral process.
The approval to print such a substantial number of ballot papers reflects the meticulous planning undertaken by the ECP to uphold transparency and fairness in the electoral system. To execute this task efficiently, three printing corporations have been entrusted with the responsibility of printing the ballots, ensuring a seamless process from production to distribution.
Heightened security measures are being implemented to safeguard the entire operation, guaranteeing that every aspect of the electoral process remains untainted. From securing the printing facilities to the transportation of the ballots to designated officials, every precaution is being taken to prevent any tampering or interference.

In addition to these measures, the ECP has also called upon all political parties to adhere to certain requirements aimed at promoting inclusivity and gender equality in the electoral process. Specifically, parties are urged to submit candidate lists that demonstrate a minimum of five percent representation of women candidates for general seats. This mandate, outlined in Section 206 of the Elections Act, 2017, underscores the ECP’s commitment to fostering greater participation of women in the political arena.
